There are no weather warnings posted for the North Country, as just light snow and flurries are predicted before Friday night, when snow showers are only expected to fall for a short time, according to the National Weather Service. As usual, the mountains have the best chance for precipitation.

Cloudy skies all night tonight are expected to keep temperatures from falling lower than about 27 to 30 degrees, with a chance of snow accumulation less than half an inch.

Friday, if anyplace will see a concentration of precipitation, it will be over the higher terrain and from a lake effect snow band across the southern portions of St. Lawrence County, and even then, it is still expected to be light, the NWS predicts. Highs New Year’s Day will reach into the mid 30s.

Friday night, more light snow is predicted, but not more than half an inch, NWS says, with lows dropping to around 20.

Saturday there is a chance of perhaps an inch of snow, with highs of 30 to 35 degrees.

Any snow showers are expected to taper off Saturday night with lows around 23. Sunday, skies will remain cloudy with a 30 percent chance of snow showers and highs in the mid 20s.

The weather service says a strong high pressure system will build in late Sunday night into Monday and bring the coldest air of the season into the North Country with highs on Monday only in the single digits and teens.
