CANTON – North Country Fireplaces has opened, offering a wide selection of wood, gas, and pellet products.

The new store will operate at 6281 U.S. Highway 11 and share space with Northern Vinyl.

A grand opening is planned for early to mid September.

The owners are Randy and Christine Sawyer. Randy will run the store primarily alone with some assistance from an employee of Northern Vinyl.

“We’ve been in the business for nearly 37 years now…in Rochester,” he said.

The Sawyers say they have been in the area for a long time and own a cottage in Higley.

“People were always asking me to bring products up and I’ve been doing that for the last four or five years. Now I have a storefront to operate out of,” he said.

North Country Fireplaces will sell fireplaces, wood and pellet stoves, free standing gas stove, inserts for fireplaces and more. Some of the brands they carry are Envire, Pacific Energy, American Panel, Selkirk, Majestic and Monessen.

The independently contract to have their products installed and serviced and already have workers in place.

“It has always worked beautifully for us,” he said.

For now, they will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. or by appointment.

The owners plan to build a home in St. Lawrence in the next couple years.

“We’ve been looking forward to this for a while now,” Sawyer said.
