North Country Assemblywoman to be interviewed by North Country Matters in Potsdam

POTSDAM – Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, D-Theresa, will be interviewed as part of the Conversation with a Candidate voter education series on North Country Matters, the local public affairs video magazine produced by WCKN at Clarkson University.

This conversation features Russell who is running for reelection to her 116th Assembly seat in the “River District." Russell is on the Democratic and Working Family Party lines on the ballot.

The series is designed to introduce voters to some of the candidates running for public office. These non-partisan Conversations ask each candidate to explain his or her positions, records, and ideas outside of the spin cycle of the 30-second campaign ad and the discussion constrains of the political debate format.

She discusses several topics with NCM hosts Ann Carvill and Donna Seymour. The interview can be viewed on YouTube on the NCM Channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9S3XtYvoNc.

The discussion ranges from public education funding to economic development that works here in the North Country to ethics and corruption in government.

Gun violence from the public health point of view and how to balance gun rights with gun safety is also discussed. Russell goes into detail about the Paid Family Leave bill that was passed this year to help create a safety net for families in New York and how it is an investment in the workforce.

Both the League of Women Voters and AAUW are non-partisan organizations who educate voters about the issues and candidates, but do not endorse candidates. An invitation was extended to the other candidate for the 116th race, but North Country Matters did not receive a response.
