Assemblyman Marc W. Butler, R-Newport, voted no on the Assembly Democrats’ budget proposal for ‘ a lack of restraint and concern about protecting the interests of law-abiding, middle-class taxpayers,’
Butler’s 118th Assembly District includes St. Lawrence County towns from Norfolk and Madrid south to Colton, Clifton and Fine.
“In their version of the budget, New York City-led Assembly Democrats support overriding the spending cap; increasing taxes by $5.6 billion; providing no relief from unfunded mandates; offering no parity in funding for upstate infrastructure needs; aggressively increasing the minimum wage to $15, which would kill upstate jobs; using taxpayer dollars to fund college tuition for illegal immigrants; continuing to finance the ill-conceived SAFE Act; and supporting a measure to reduce the work requirement for those on public assistance,” Butler said in a prepared statement.
“I voted no on this outlandish political posturing from the Assembly Democrats; they do not prioritize the needs of hard-working middle-class New Yorkers and they need to be held accountable for this,” the statement said.
