POTSDAM -- North Country 99% Coalition plans a peaceful protest and rally on Saturday, May 5, as part of The 99% Spring and the www.350.org movement to improve the world's environmental organization and push for the end of federal fuel subsidies.
The day begins at the Potsdam Post Office at 11 a.m., joining the weekly peace vigil there.
At noon, the rally moves to Fall Island Park off of Maple Street for a rally with speakers, live music, and informational tables.
Between noon and 2 p.m. speakers will be SUNY Potsdam student Chris Jenne, Canton teacher Tom VandeWater, Karen Norton of Move to Amend’s Watertown chapter, and Frank Thies of Veterans for Peace.
Other organizations will have tables set up at Fall Island offering literature on their groups.
Rain site is SUNY Potsdam’s Barrington Student Union.
The theme of the nationwide movement is “Connect the Dots,” urging that people recognize the connections between climate change, oil subsidies, and other issues of the “99%.”
