Public libraries in Norfolk, Norwood and Russell have been awarded a combined $87,554 for construction.
“Many of our public libraries are in desperate need of renovations and upgrades,” said Sen. Joseph Griffo (R-Rome), whose district includes those localities and the towns of Massena, Brasher, Stockholm, Potsdam, Pierrepont, Clifton, Fine, and Pitcairn in St. Lawrence County, plus Lewis and Oneida counties.
The funds are going to
• Hepburn Library of Norfolk, $70,527 for restoration of the library roof and chimneys
• Norwood Public Library, $13,424 to replace a roof and an inefficient furnace
• Russell Public Library, $3,603 to drill a well and connect it to the library.
“We need to make libraries accessible and enjoyable for all,” said Griffo.
The grant funds are from an allocation in the 2013-14 state budget.
