MASSENA -- A Norfolk man, accused of growing marijuana, was jailed Tuesday on $15,000 bail after he allegedly damaged his home while intoxicated and reported a false home invasion, Massena-based state police said.

Nathaniel W. Dodson, 31, was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree falsely reporting an incident, issuing a false statement, unlawfully growing cannabis, unlawful possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evident.

Troopers said they responded to a reported home invasion at Dodson's residence on April 26 at 3:17 p.m., but an investigation revealed Dodson had been alone at the residence when he entered the bedroom of a house mate without permission and stole liquor.

Troopers said the investigation also showed that Dodson became intoxicated and caused damage to the interior of the residence.

When his wife returned home, troopers said Dodson falsely informed her that two unknown males entered the residence, assaulted him and damaged the interior of the home. Troopers said Dodson’s wife then called 911, and Dodson continued to convey false information to the 911 dispatcher, through his wife.

Troopers said Dodson also destroyed some of the marihuana plants he was found to be growing in the home, in an effort to prevent detection by responding state police and sheriff’s deputies.

Dodson later gave a false written statement concerning the incident.

Dodson was charged at 10:14 a.m. at 125 Stark Road, according to state police.

Dodson was arraigned in the Village of Massena Court and sent to the St. Lawrence County Jail on $15,000.00 cash bail or $30,000.00 bond.

Dodson is scheduled to appear for further proceedings in the Town of Norfolk Court on May 8 at 9:30 a.m.
