POTSDAM -- A 67-year-old Norfolk man died Tuesday night after his vehicle hit a tree on River Road, according to the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said James I. Murphy failed to negotiate a curve and his vehicle left the road and hit a tree.
Murphy reportedly suffered massive blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood, said the department.
An autopsy is being scheduled, police said.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by state police, Norwood Fire Department, Norfolk fire and rescue departments, and the Potsdam Police Department, deputies said.
The department said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
