The St. Lawrence County Youth Advisory Board, a citizen board of the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau, is sponsoring the 2014 Memorial Award of Excellence in Karin P. Martin’s honor.

The award is for "an exceptional youth-serving program," a statement from the Youth Bureau says. An award committee will select the finalist. The winner will be invited to a special board meeting in September, where they will be honored.

Martin was a youth advisory board member who died in a car accident in 1989.

A news release from the county Youth Bureau says she "was an exceptional leader and youth representative. She voiced her opinion with dignity on behalf of youth in St. Lawrence County, and strongly believed that youth involvement and board participation is of extreme importance in the planning and decision-making process for youth services."

Eligibility:

• Any organization that (i.e. community-based, not-for-profit, business, labor, government agencies, school support groups) includes youth (age 10-21) in their planning and decision-making process.

• Nominations can come from anywhere. Organizations may nominate themselves.

• All programs nominated must be in St. Lawrence County.

• Deadline Aug. 1

Info, applications: youthcorps@stlawco.org or 379-9464. Include name, number, mailing address, and email.
