Congressman Bill Owens is encouraging seniors and graduating high school students in St. Lawrence County and in the rest of New York’s 21st Congressional District to pursue nominations to the U.S. military service academies.
A member of Congress can nominate a student to attend a U.S. service academy if the student meets eligibility requirements and submits a detailed application. These academies include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn. does not require applicants to be nominated.
Interested students may contact a district office to request additional information or application guidance. All nomination requests must be submitted by Nov. 1.
Application instructions, including the form to request nomination, can be found at http://owens.house.gov/constituentservices/serviceacademynominations.htm.
Last year Owens nominated 28 students for application to U.S. service academies.
