NORFOLK -- The Town of Norfolk and Village of Canton ranked in the top 20 in New York for the lowest burglary odds, according to ConsumerAffairs.com.
The Town of Norfolk is ranked number three and the Village of Canton is ranked number 15 in New York state.
ConsumerAffairs.com analyzed FBI and Census Bureau data to create an interactive map displaying the safest cities in the United States.
The odds of a residence being burglarized in Norfolk is 1:4558 and the average crimes permitted per day .03, according to the study.
In Canton, there is a 1:2273 chance of a dwelling being burglarized and .19 crimes are committed each day.
The villages of Baldwinsville and Pleasantville were number one and two, respectively, for least burglarized places in the state.
Baldwinsville burglary odds are 1:7485 and Pleasantville’s odds are 1:7151, ConsumerAffairs.com reports.
Nationally, the odds of a residence being burgled are 1:182. The report says that 36,904 crimes are committed each day.
The FBI's annual report Crime in the United States revealed the estimated number of violent crimes reported by law enforcement during 2014 dropped by 0.2 percent and the estimated number of property crimes decreased 4.3 percent when compared with 2013 data.
Here are some additional highlights from Crime in the United States, 2014:
• An estimated 1,165,383 violent crimes and an estimated 8,277,829 property crimes were reported by law enforcement
• Financial losses suffered by victims of these crimes were calculated at approximately $14.3 billion
• Larceny-theft accounted for 70.8 percent of all property crimes reported, burglary for 20.9 percent, and motor vehicle theft for 8.3 percent.
