No St. Lawrence County residents make cut for world series of poker at Akwesasne casino
AKWESASNE – No St. Lawrence County players qualified during the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort playoff for the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in July, but a man from Plattsburgh will be going.
Ryan Carey won the coveted seat, valued at $10,000, with an additional $5,000 for travel.With all 108 seats sold for the Mohawk tournament , the poker room at the casino was full of hopefuls trying their skill to become a contestant at the world’s largest poker tournament.
Poker Room Manager Bryan Garrow said, “Each year, we seem to be getting more participation. There was even a waiting list to play this time around.”
Another poker tournament is on June 15.
“We are already telling our guests to start buying tickets in advance because it will be first come, first serve for the June tournament,” Garrow said.
