No parking allowed on Massena streets until snow removed; village police issue no unnecessary travel advisory

The Massena Police Department are issuing a no unnecessary travel advisory for the Village of Massena starting at 1 p.m.

Starting at 5 p.m., the village will be implement a parking ban on all village roadways pursuant to village code prohibiting parking on all streets when snow removal is necessary.

This ban will remain in effect until such time as the snow emergency is declared ended via media announcements, according to Massena police.

This travel advisory does not restrict travel. However, as this storm moves into Massena the possibility of hazardous driving conditions exist throughout the area.

"Winter Storm Stella has the potential for blizzard conditions and steady, heavy snow causing poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions on the roadways," a news release from the police department says.

Department of Public Works staff will work throughout the day and night clearing the roadways.

"Massena Police want to remind Village residents and plow operators not to plow snow onto sidewalks or across the roadways. It is illegal to cover sidewalks and to plow across the roadways," the police department's news release says.

For the safety of all residents, police encourage the general public is encouraged to stay off the roads and shelter in place while this advisory is active. Caution is urged due to the possibility of blizzard and heavy snow conditions.

Those with emergencies are encouraged to call 911. The Massena Fire Station will be open if anyone needs shelter.

Mayor Timmy J Currier is asking for everyone’s cooperation during this storm, and says he wants to ensure citizens that village government is prepared to respond. The mayor has spent the morning coordinating preparation and response efforts with department heads, public safety leadership and public works leadership.

“Our public safety officials will be working around the clock to keep our citizens safe and respond to any emergency that may arise. Our public works crews and staff are prepared to deal with whatever mother nature’s sends our way. Cooperation from our citizens during this storm and while we recover from it is vital to ensuring we keep everyone safe," Currier said in a prepared statement.
