State police say there are no criminal charges expected against a Massena man who struck and killed a pedestrian in Jefferson County.
On Aug. 7 around 1:28 a.m., James T. Ashley, 29, was traveling south in a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche on state Route 12, just north of Cherry Street in West Turin, when he approached a tractor-trailer parked along the north shoulder of the roadway across from the entrance of a gas station, police said.
A female passenger from the tractor-trailer, Bridget M. Weir, 50, of Kingston, N.Y. began to walk across the roadway and into the path of the vehicle, troopers said.
Weir was struck and transported from the scene by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica where she succumbed to her injuries, according to state police.
