MASSENA -- The mayor’s proposed 2016-2017 budget will be available for public viewing on Friday.
On Tuesday, the board agreed to hold an April 5 public hearing for a local law to override the state’s 2 percent tax cap. It will be at 5:30 p.m. in the town hall.
The board will not vote following the hearing. Currier said they will leave the hearing open, and down the road if they need to pass an override, they close the hearing and vote.
He said they do that because Albany penalizes the village if they pass an override and don’t use it.
“The way the state law is written … the rebate checks to people in the community would not be available because of the override vote,” Currier said.
The board has planned five budget work sessions, all to be in the town hall and open to the public. They will be at 5 p.m. on April 11, 12, 14 and 26. They will hold the fifth, if necessary, April 28.
