Newly accepted Chinese students at St. Lawrence University welcomed with special notes written in their language

CANTON -- St. Lawrence University students Chenqu Jiang and Xuehang Pan wrote “congratulations to you” in Chinese calligraphy to newly accepted Chinese students.

“We wanted to make it a little more personable and pay special attention to the cultural backgrounds of Chinese students,” said Musa Khalidi, director of international admissions.

“Chinese students now represent a sizable pool of students at St. Lawrence, and we wanted to recognized their culture with a little extra touch. It’s a small gesture to congratulate them in their own language.”

The calligraphy notes will be included in the acceptance packages that are mailed this month to newly admitted Chinese students, welcoming them into the class of 2019.
