New York State Police accepting applications for statewide exam in October for trooper candidates

The New York State Police are accepting applications for the statewide examination in October for trooper candidates.

Exams are scheduled for Oct. 5. 12. 19 and 26 at several locations around the state.

Those interested in becoming a New York State Trooper can apply on-line at www.NYTROOPER.com.

People can use PayPal, Visa or MasterCard to pay for the application fee. The application has been made mobile device-friendly.

Opportunities with the State Police include training and membership in specialized units, such as crime scene evidence technicians, field training officers, K-9 handlers, firearms instructors, and motor vehicle collision reconstructionists, and specialized details and units including the aviation unit, the scuba team, the special operations response team, the gun investigation unit, the community narcotics enforcement team, and the commercial vehicle enforcement unit. Troopers may also pursue assignments as investigators in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation or in a variety of other specialized units.

Starting salary is $50,374 during academy training, increasing to $66,905 after graduation, and after one year to $71,261.

On-line applications deadline is Sept. 8. Results from the examination will establish an eligibility list that may remain in effect for a maximum of four years.
