The state Department of Transportation will pave of about 42 miles of state highways in St. Lawrence County with a cost of $15 million.
The money is an annual allocation for maintenance paving coming from federal and state sources, New York State Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Flick said.
About two miles of paving will be done on Lawrence Avenue in Potsdam.
State Highway 56 from Hamm's Inn to Catamount Lodge will see 13 miles of work and State Highway 56 from South Colton to Colton is expected to see 10 miles of paving.
There are plans for about four miles of paving on State Highway 72 in Parishville to Parishville Center.
Flick says that six miles of road from State Highway 37 in Ogdensburg from State Route 68W to Park Street will be repaved. Paving continues on Park Street to County Route 28 for about six miles.
“I don't see any of these are creating major delays,” he said. “With any paving project there will be minor delays - and we do our best to stage work in order to minimize delays and move people through as quickly as possible.”
He said there were no major surprises with road conditions or bridge conditions.
“We actively monitor road and bridge conditions and have had an active pavement management process for over 20 year…we do however have to prioritize projects as there need for resources always outpaces those available.
Flick did not know exactly when the work would begin, but expected it to begin “soon.”
