New York Power Authority installing buoys, docks along the St. Lawrence River this week

MASSENA – The New York Power Authority will be installing buoys and docks along the St. Lawrence River this week.

The devices will be placed in the St. Lawrence River in the vicinity of its St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The process is expected to take approximately two weeks, but is dependent on the weather and river conditions.

The St. Lawrence FDR plant’s Hawkins Point Visitors Center and Boat Launch will be inaccessible and unavailable for public use until the end of May due to repairs and modifications being made to the ramp.

The Hawkins Point dock will be installed after completion of repairs and available for public use.

The Dock installation will begin at the Massena Intake and will be completed at Howard Park docks in the Town of Waddington.

The Docks and buoys will be installed in the following locations:

In the Town of Massena:

• Massena Intake docks

• South Channel buoys

• Massena Country Club docks

In the Town and Village of Waddington:

• Whitaker Park docks

• Old Milk Factory buoys

• Howard Park docks

All the docks and buoys are scheduled to be removed in the fall, depending on weather and river conditions. The fall removal is timed so they are taken out before heavy frost or ice form on the surface of the docks, creating unsafe conditions for workers and the boating public.
