CANTON -- The new Canton hotel development is on track, but there might be no significant visible signs of it for some months, according to the president of the management company organizing the project.
“We are preparing to get drawings and engineering reports and arrange financing,” said Andy Patel, president of Visions Hotels of Corning, a hotel management company.
The development of the Fairfield Inn by Marriot next to the University Plaza on US Rt. 11 was announced last fall.
The three-story 13,000 square foot hotel will sit on 9.6 acres in a wooded area on the east side of the plaza property.
The plan is for 79 rooms, “about 25 percent of which will be suites with a living area,” according to Patel. Every room will have a refrigerator and microwave. There will also be a swimming pool, a small meeting room, “and a very large fitness center,” he said.
Patel said the preliminary work would probably not be complete until the summer, so he would not speculate about a completion date.
