MASSENA -- Village residents could soon get new recycle containers from the Department of Public Works, DPW Superintendent Hassan Fayad told the village board on Tuesday.
He said he applied on 2012 for a state grant that reimburses half of the cost of 32-gallon containers for all of the approximate 4,800 accounts in Massena.
“They pay up to 50 percent of the recycle containers which I anticipated purchasing for all the accounts in the village,” Fayad said.
He hopes to get them this year, but it could be as late as next year.
“They said it could take up to five years,” he said.
The state and village will split the cost that Fayad estimates at $84,000.
He said the state is also picking up half of the cost of a $128,000 new recycling truck.
