New record low set in Gouverneur, Star Lake region; record tied in Potsdam and Massena

The Gouverneur and Star Lake region experienced record-setting low temperatures yesterday with a low of -11 which beat the previous record of -7 set in 2005, according to Weather Underground.

The temps were recorded yesterday at KGTB Wheeler-Sack International Airport in Fort Drum, which is the nearest National Weather Service recording station for the southern portion of the county.

New record low temperatures were tied in Potsdam and Massena yesterday as lows dropped to -23 tying the previous record which was set in 1979, according to Weather Underground.

The record temps were recorded at the Massena International Airport.

Lows in Canton and Ogdensburg were -23 but that was not enough for a new record as lows in 1979 were reportedly -31.

Temperatures will climb today to around 20 with wind chill values as low as -6, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

There is a 50 percent chance of snowfall tonight with one to two inches possible and lows around 2 and wind chill values of -7, NWS says.

Temps will be in the single digits for Thursday and Friday before climbing into the mid 20s for the weekend.

Tonight A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 2. Wind chill values as low as -7. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph after midnight. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy and cold, with a high near 6. Wind chill values as low as -15. West wind 9 to 16 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday Night A 50 percent chance of snow showers before 4am. Cloudy, with a low around -8. Wind chill values as low as -22. West wind 13 to 15 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Friday Partly sunny and cold, with a high near 4. West wind 8 to 10 mph.

Friday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around -5. Southwest wind around 10 mph.

Saturday A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 23. South wind 10 to 14 mph.

Saturday Night Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 18. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Sunday A 50 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday Night A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph.
