A new record high temperature was set yesterday, Aug. 11, as dangerously hot weather reached 93 degrees in Massena and Potsdam.
The 93 degree reading recorded at the official National Weather Station at Massena's Richards Field beat the previous record of 90 degrees set in 2002.
The temp yesterday never dropped below 71 in Massena and Potsdam.
Although temps reached into the 90s in Ogdensburg and Canton, the previous high of 97 degrees in 1944 remains.
Highs in the southern part of the country, in Gouverneur and Star Lake areas, reach 88 degrees. The record of 96 degrees happened in 1944. The record was recorded at KGTB Wheeler-Sack International Airport in Fort Drum, which is the nearest National Weather Service recording station for Star Lake and Gouverneur., according to Weather Underground.
