New record high possible as temperatures expected to reach 90 in parts of St. Lawrence County

A new record high temperature is possible today in St. Lawrence County as the National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting temps around 90 degrees and heat index values as high as 95.

The record high for July 13 in Massena and Potsdam is 93 degrees, set in 1995.

Today will be sunny and hot with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon NWS says. Winds will be 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Temps are expected to be slightly cooler in Canton and Ogdensburg areas, with highs of 88 degrees expected. Heat index values will be near 92, the service says.

In the southern part of the county, near Star Lake and Gouverneur, highs will top out around 85 with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m., NWS says.

Overnight lows in the county will be between around 70 degrees for much of the region.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Heat index values as high as 93. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 10pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday

A chance of showers between 9am and noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a chance of showers between midnight and 2 a.m.. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
