DEKALB --The Town of DeKalb has installed new playground and basketball equipment at the playground located on Gibbon Street with the help of a $7,400 grant.
The grant is from the Health Initiative’s Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work & Play program, funded by the New York State Department of Health.
The project was considered a success due to a number of individuals who volunteered their time.
“We had volunteer help from Larry Denesha, Alan Garrand, Jodi Hamilton, and several of the community young people along with great support from several highway employees. Without this support this project would have cost more and not meant the same to the community,” said Town of DeKalb Supervisor John Frary.
The playground equipment was installed and Donald Brown Contracting donated services to install the basketball court equipment over the next few weeks. Along with the rejuvenation of the playground, the town has passed a tobacco-free policy for all parks, playgrounds and public areas.
