Pistol and revolver license holders in St. Lawrence County and across New York State are required to recertify their status every five years as part of the SAFE Act.

Three computers will be available for public use at the St. Lawrence County Clerk’s Office to recertify and check on the status of recertification.

Recertify electronically by visiting https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/ and following the instructions. License holders can also certify via mail by printing a form off of https://troopers.ny.gov/Firearms/ or by visiting any state police station. Completed forms can be mailed to New York State Police, Pistol Permit Bureau, Building 22, 1220 Washington Ave., Albany, New York 12226.

The deadline to recertify is based on the date license holders were issued a license. For those who were issued a license before Jan. 15, 2013, the deadline is Jan. 31, 2018. Those who received a license after Jan. 15, 2013, the deadline is five years after the date the license was issued.

Those who fail to recertify within the deadline will have their pistol license revoked. As part of the process, license holders must confirm information such as name, current address, date of birth and list of all pistols and revolvers currently possessed along with the make, model, caliber and serial numbers. A government issued ID is required.
