POTSDAM – Two St. Lawrence County residents say they are in the process of buying The Carol Lee Shoppe, 69 Market St., with plans to make changes to focus on increased relationships with customers and other businesses.

Jackie Green and Selwyn Jamurath plan to make the acquisition official in early July,

“We heard from a friend that the business was for sale and she said that we would be great at running that,” Green said.

Jamurath says he has had experience starting several businesses, and they thought it would be a great fit for them.

“We think that it is very important for a bridal boutique store to stay open in the Potsdam area,” Green said.

Expected changes include the implementation of a point of sale system, growth in all aspects of sale including the possibility of menswear.

“It is an exciting yet overwhelming task but the pleasure that we will bring to brides, grooms, young women attending prom and the community in general will be very rewarding,” she said.

The handling of business development will be led by Jamurath and focus on positive branding of the “Carol Lee” name and Green will be handling the retail operations and staffing.

“We are fully automating the customer experience to include a customer loyalty program, a gift card program, electronic and mail marketing, as well as a presence on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Our focus is increased relationships with our customers and other businesses,” Green said.

Jamurath grew up in New Jersey, is a Gulf War veteran and was a Silicon Valley entrepreneur before moving to Northern New York. He worked at Canton-Potsdam Hospital for nearly four years in information systems as a physician liaison and is now employed by Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center as a clinical analyst.

He previously owned 5 businesses in California with over 300 employees. Selwyn holds a nursing degree from SUNY Canton.

Green was born and raised in the North Country having attended SUNY Plattsburgh. She came back to work in Canton for eight years and has worked at Canton-Potsdam Hospital for 12 years. She has two children, Delaney Dow ,17, and Trent Dow, 15.
