NORWOOD -- Changes are afoot at the Norwood Public Library, with a new director and a proposal for new hours, which is open to public comment.
Cheryl A. Mirer has replaced former director Marcia Murray, who retired recently.
Born in Burlington, Conn., Mirer earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art and art history from the University of Massachusetts in 1995. She went on to earn a master’s in art administration in 2005 from Boston University.
Past career choices for Mirer have included teaching art in the Peace Corps. designing kitchens and bathrooms and working for the alumni affairs office at Bard College. More recently, Mirer served as the director of the artists-in-residence program at Hub-Bub, a community based arts organization in Spartanburg, S.C. She moved to Potsdam in 2012.
Mirer hopes to use her background in event planning, marketing and fundraising to make the library the hub of the Norwood community.
In addition to the new director, the library intends to update its operating hours. The library is seeking public feedback, via a survey, on what hours would be the most useful for library patrons.
The survey can be filled out at the library or online at www.norwoodnylibrary.org/. The survey will be available for public comment until Friday, Feb. 1. New library hours will be announced the following week.
