New library for Brasher Falls might be on November ballot if enough signatures collected

BRASHER FALLS -- A public library for Brasher Falls could be in the works if citizens there get enough signatures for a ballot proposition in the November election.

The library would be in Crapser Hall in downtown Brasher.

That will be the scene of a “Books for Brasher” ice cream social and petition-signing from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16.

But organizers are not waiting, because there is a limited time to gather enough signatures, and so are soliciting signatures now. A signer must be a registered voter and a resident of the Town of Brasher.

The library would be a branch of the Massena Public Library, which has approved the plan at an estimated cost of $56,000 per year.

A Facebook page, Books for Brasher, has been created to help get enough signatures for November ballot placement and to win voters’ endorsement of the plan.
