CANTON -- A new restaurant in Canton offers a Jamaican menu, featuring a variety of mild and spicy dishes.
Jody A. Pitt and her partner Repton L. Abramham, opened "Da Kitchen" to provide something different for North Country residents and something familiar for students attending the local colleges.
Pitt said she attended SUNY Canton and remained here after graduation. While attending school she decided she wanted to open a restaurant that reflected her Jamaican heritage.
She said she worked with SUNY Canton's Small Business Development Center to establish the restaurant.
Pitt said Da Kitchen serves a variety of fried and jerk kitchen along with rice and vegetables.
She said each dish is a bit different.
"Every food has its own spice and own origin to it," she said.
Although the food is Jamaican style, Pitt said it wouldn’t be too spicy for most people.
"It's spicy but nothing overbearing," she said.
Da Kitchen is located at 13 Hodskin St., Canton. It is open from noon to 11 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 2 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
13 Hodskin Street. Currently the restaurant is open Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and closed on Monday, but Pitt said she would be switching Sunday and Monday in the near future.
