OGDENSBURG – Staff and volunteers at Frederic Remington Art Museum, 303 Washington St., installed all new granite base supports for the sculpture collection there Feb. 20.
The new bases were made possible with donations from the Sweetgrass Foundation, and replace the 20-year-old painted material used previously that has started to become worn.
The tones in the granite are a perfect complement to the varied patina in the bronze sculptures, and the stone tops turned out even better than museum staff had hoped, said a press release.
Also included in the project are newly fabricated labels, to replace the less durable old ones, which were beginning to fray.
The Sweetgrass Foundation has created a long lasting improvement in the museum's quality of presentation of its most significant collection, an improvement that probably wouldn't have happened without this special, designated funding, museum organizers said.
The Museum is open October 15 through May 15, Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. and May 16 through October 14, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
