MASSENA -- Although Massena Memorial Hospital officials are budgeting to lose some money from operations in 2015, they say new cost-cutting measures could save as much as $200,000 per month over last year.
MMH Chief Financial Officer James Smith said they could see $100,000 to $150,000 monthly in savings because no longer having the dialysis center on the books. About $50,000 of that comes from raising the price of some of their services.
“If the numbers hold at projections and we see an increase in revenue and reduction of expenses, we should see a much improved bottom line through 2015,” Smith said. “
The January financial and statistical summary released Monday shows that MMH lost $65,778, covering the loss from cash reserves. This is more than half of their anticipated loss. They budgeted to be $141,365 deep at month’s end.
He said since American Renal took over the dialysis clinic, “We’ve had an impact of over $100,000 to the good.”
In addition to that, their ambulatory surgical procedures for the month were up. They anticipated 179 but actually performed 196.
Along with that, emergency room visits went over budget as well -- 1,232 compared to the expected 1,166.
“I think that’s helping to jump revenue numbers up a little bit,” Smith said.
