POTSDAM -- A new church will soon open in Potsdam.
Anchor Baptist Church, 9 Gilmore St., will open its doors with a series of "Get Acquainted" meetings daily at 7 p.m. from Sunday, Sept. 18 through Thursday, Sept. 22.
The grand opening is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 25 with Pastor James Noreau.
The regular schedule, beginning on Sept. 25, is Sunday School at 10 a.m., Sunday morning service at 11 a.m., Sunday evening service at 6 p.m., and Thursday Bible Study at 7 p.m.
Noreau grew up in Chesapeake, Va., but he says each summer his family would come up to the North Country to visit family here, “and I grew to love it here,” he says on the church web site.
He studied at Crown College of the Bible in Knoxville, Tenn., where he met his wife, Angela. He finished his masters degree at Crown.
He comes to Potsdam from Westbrook Baptist Church in Maine.
The building was at one time a Lutheran church associated with the Missouri Synod.
