NORWOOD -- Chainsaw carver Terry McKendree of DeKalb donated three days of his time to create a piece called “Three Bears,” dedicated to late longtime BOCES employee Gail Jenkins, who died in February.
McKendree has been developing and perfecting his craft since he retired as Potsdam police chief 12 years ago. He did all the work on his new “Three Bears” bench sculpture at Seaway Career and Technical Education Center in Norwood.
That is where Jenkins, a 30-year employee at St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, spent most of her working time.
The bench bearing her name will be displayed on the Norwood campus where Gail spent the majority of her career.
The massive white pine logs from which the piece was created were donated by local logger Rick “Bear” Enslow of Hermon.
The Natural Resources Program at Seaway Career and Technical Education Center coordinated the effort with the help of many volunteers.
