BRASHER FALLS – The fledgling boys soccer program at St. Lawrence Central recently received word from the Adirondack Community Trust that they were awarded a $2,000 grant through the Adirondack for Kids fund.

Adirondack for Kids is funded by Adirondack Energy in Malone. The funding will be used to offset transportation and referee costs associated with the startup season.

“It has been an amazing experience to watch these boys put themselves out there without much knowledge of the game of soccer," said head coach Julia Rose. "They have worked hard and improved dramatically in individual skill level and team play. It has been very rewarding to see their dedication and willingness to learn. They are a great group of young men. I can’t wait to see the program grow in size and ability.”

Athletic Director Rose Bronchetti said, “Coach Rose has done a tremendous job with the fundraising for the boys soccer program. She has gone out of her way to search for grants and has been rewarded by receiving this grant. Her dedication is really appreciated by the Board of Education, parents, players and me.”

The team recently had a t-shirt fundraiser and will donate the proceeds as seed funding for next year’s program. The goal is to secure both a modified and varsity team in the near future.
