MASSENA -- The Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center have created a new Internet blog to update the community on happenings since a March fire that shut down the center’s long-time home on Robinson Bay Road.
The new Friends blog can be found at www.nynaturecenter.org.
The site has information on recovery plans, and has a survey to help them decide on a new location for the center.
“Both NYPA and NYS Parks have indicated they would welcome community input as they determine the site of the new Nature Center,” said Rick Marshall, president of the Friends group board. “Our Friends group is glad to step in and help to gather information on such things as proximity to our current trails, ease of access, and other location factors.”
Surveys were also made available at the Massena Blues Festival and at the Potsdam Summerfest in early July, and can be filled out at the Nature Center’s summer home at the Beach Building on Barnhart Island. They will soon be available at the Massena Chamber gift shop at the Seaway Visitors Center. So far, the Friends have received well over 100 responses.
Thanks to some quick work by NYS Parks, NYPA and volunteers who helped to move items, the Nature Center is operating out of a temporary home in the “Beach Building” at Barnhart in Robert Moses State Park for the summer.
