Madrid thrift store receives $10,000 in help for new building from NNY Community Foundation

MADRID -- The Northern New York Community Foundation recently awarded a $10,000 grant to New Beginnings Clothing and Food Outreach.

The money is allocated for construction of their new thrift store and food pantry.

Just one year after the capital campaign kickoff, New Beginnings Food and Clothing Outreach, Inc., broke ground in June at the site, 3605 County Route 14.

New Beginnings was established in 1989, and serves people throughout St. Lawrence County and beyond.

Sponsored and governed by the union of three local churches and staffed by volunteers, the store and food pantry have operate out of a small dilapidated carriage barn.

The new facility has been supported by donations, fundraisers and grants.

New Beginnings is open 9-12 every Saturday with good used clothing for

sale and food is available as needed on request to 322-4307 or322-5631.
