OGDENSBURG -- During the month of May, NBT Bank is teaching its Strive Financial Literacy classes to attendees at the Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club afterschool program.
NBT Bank of Ogdensburg Branch Manager Craig Chevalier is leading a total of four sessions.
The first session is for children in kindergarten through second grade and provides them with an introduction to understanding coins and paper money.
Another session for children in third through fifth grades focuses on how to track and meet savings goals.
In the final two sessions, students in grades seven through nine discuss the financial outcomes of common teen choices, as well as learn about applying for a car loan and the factors that influence loans.
“We have an opportunity to reach children whose families might already be in difficult financial situations,” said Chevalier. “This type of education early in life not only helps their financial futures, but can have an immediate impact as well – whether it’s simply getting them more involved understanding family finances or preparing for their own financial experiences.”
