National Weather Service warns flash flooding possible as rain, thunderstorms continue in North Country

The National Weather Service that flash flooding is possible this afternoon as showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue in the North Country.

Storms will likely continue to deluge over areas that have already received significant amounts of rainfall, the service said.

The service is also predicting more rain over the weekend as a nor’easter forms off the New England coast. Below normal temperatures can also be anticipated, the service said.

The full seven day forecast follows:

• Late Afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 66. Southwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Tonight: Occasional showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 45. West wind 8 to 11 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Friday: Showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 54. North wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of rain after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. North wind 3 to 6 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Saturday: A 50 percent chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Northeast wind 11 to 13 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Saturday Night: Rain likely, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. North wind 8 to 13 mph.

• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. Calm wind.

• Memorial Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. West wind 7 to 9 mph becoming northwest in the morning.

• Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 43. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

• Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 71. West wind 5 to 9 mph.

• Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51. Light and variable wind.

• Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

• Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Southwest wind around 8 mph.

• Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. West wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
