A sunny and relatively warm Friday is expected to give way to a weekend with decent chances of rain and snow in all St. Lawrence County communities.

The National Weather Service says Friday should be partly sunny, with temperatures in the mid 30s, even getting to as high as 37 degrees in Star Lake, which is typically several degrees cooler than lower-lying townships.

Friday night is forecast to drop to the high 20s with 50 to 60 percent odds of snow or wintry mix.

Saturday is predicted to rise to nearly 40 degrees in most areas. Rain is predicted in Gouverneur and Potsdam. Massena, Canton and Ogdensburg are looking at chances of rain followed by snow.

Saturday night is anticipated to bring temperatures just a few degrees below daytime. There are 30 to 70 percent odds of rain countywide.

Sunday is forecast to be around 45 degrees, with up to 90 percent odds of breeze and rain.

Nighttime hours could drop to around 25 degrees, with Canton, Ogdensburg and Massena looking at a 50 percent chance of rain and snow. Gouverneur is looking at 70 percent and Potsdam 90 percent.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

• Friday - Partly sunny, with a high near 36. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the morning.

• Friday night - A chance of freezing rain and sleet, mainly after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

• Saturday - A chance of rain before 2 p.m., then a chance of showers after 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 41. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Saturday night - A chance of showers before 2 a.m., then a chance of rain after 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 37. South wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Sunday - Rain. High near 45. Southeast wind 14 to 17 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

• Sunday night - Rain showers before 10 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., then a chance of snow showers after 1 a.m. Low around 25. Windy, with a southwest wind 20 to 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

• Monday - A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 23 mph.

• Monday night - A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. West wind 7 to 15 mph.

• Tuesday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

• Tuesday night - A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. South wind around 9 mph.
