National Weather Service says snow, ice, rain headed for St. Lawrence County over the weekend

Snow will hit St. Lawrence County possibly on Saturday and definitely by Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

They say snow is likely during the daylight hours on Saturday, with a 60 percent chance of an inch of snow throughout the county and 40 percent odds in Massena and Potsdam. That should be accompanied by temperatures in the mid-20s.

Meteorologists say there is a 100 percent chance of wintry mix throughout St. Lawrence County on Saturday night. It could include up to .4 inches of ice and as much as 3 inches of snow. Temperatures are predicted in the mid-20s.

Thermometers should rise to the mid-40s on Sunday, the NWS says, with a 90 percent chance of rain in all areas of the county. Sunday night is predicted to drop to around 10 degrees, bringing more snow. The odds of precipitation at night is 50 percent in Canton and Gouverneur, with 40 percent odds elsewhere.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Tonight - Partly cloudy, with a low around 9. Light and variable wind.

Saturday - A 40 percent chance of snow after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. Light east wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday night - Snow before 11 p.m., then freezing rain between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., then rain after 2 a.m. Temperature rising to around 36 by 5 a.m. East wind 8 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New ice accumulation of around a tenth of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Sunday - Rain before 10 a.m, then drizzle likely. High near 46. Windy, with an east wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest 16 to 26 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday night - A chance of rain and snow showers before 10 p.m., then a chance of snow showers between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 13. Breezy, with a west wind 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Monday - A chance of snow showers between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 13. West wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Monday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 2. West wind 5 to 14 mph.

Tuesday - A 50 percent chance of light snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 16. South wind around 6 mph.

Tuesday night - Light snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 8. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Wednesday - A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 13. Light northwest wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning.

Wednesday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around -12. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

Thursday - Partly sunny and cold, with a high near 4. West wind around 9 mph.

Thursday night - A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3. Southwest wind around 9 mph.

Friday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 18. West wind around 11 mph.
