A warm and fairly muggy day is expected as students begin their first day of school today, as a band of rainfall moves across central St. Lawrence County at this hour.

There is a chance of rain and maybe some thunderstorms this afternoon across the St. Lawrence Valley and northern Adirondacks before skies clear for tonight and tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service forecast. If there are thunderstorms, they are expected to be few in number and isolated.

The rain is expected to dissipate during the evening hours as it moves east.

Generally fair conditions are expected tonight and Friday. Temperatures will remain warm Friday but with lower humidity levels.

Meanwhile a slow-moving cold front will bring widespread rain to the North Country on Saturday, the NWS predicts.
