Much-needed rain this morning in St. Lawrence County might not amount to much

Very welcome rain this morning is falling all across St. Lawrence County, with the south of the county getting a bit more than the rest. The National Weather Service predicts that it will amount to less than a tenth of an inch, but possibly more in thunderstorms that the NWS says could play out today.

The chance of rain continues through Saturday morning at 30 or 40 percent probable. It will remain mostly cloudy, with high temperatures in the 70s and lows in the 60s.

The sun is expected to emerge Saturday afternoon, with highs near 80. Skies are expected to be mostly clear through Monday or Tuesday.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and the northwestern Adirondacks:

Today: Occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10am, then showers likely. High near 71. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly before 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 63. Light west wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Light west wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am, then a chance of showers between 8am and 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.
