CANTON – A motorcylist was arrested for drunk driving and fleeing a police officer Saturday after leading St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies on a chase after they observed him traveling at 105 miles per hour.
Deputies attempted to stop Nathan J. Johnston, 25, of 5729 NYS Hwy. 11, Chateaugay, after they observed him driving his 2009 Suzuki motorcycle at 105 mph on County Route 27.
However, he refused to stop and continued to drive in a “reckless manner,” weaving in and out of traffic and passing vehicles on the right hand side of the road, deputies said.
Deputies finally managed to get him to stop on Riverside Drive in the Village of Canton with the assistance of Canton village police.
Deputies said his blood alcohol level was .21 percent, nearly three times the .08 percent threshold for DWI.
He was also charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer third degree, reckless driving, failure to comply, operating out of class and improper passing.
He was released to a family member and is to face the charges in Canton Town Court on April 18, deputies said.
