MORRISTOWN -- The town and village will discuss a dissolution study on Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. at the town fire hall, 200 Morris St.
A study committee, with help from the Development Authority of the North Country and the New York Department of State, since February has been looking into the potential impacts of dissolving the village.
The meeting will include:
• A summary of the work the committee has completed so far, which is detailed in a draft existing conditions report.
• an overview of the next phase of the study: alternatives phase.
• an overview of the municipal consolidation process and the incentives offered to
communities through the Citizens Empowerment Tax Credit program
The dissolution study is being funded in part through a state grant. The committee is posting information developed during the study at http://www.danc.org/operations/engineering/morristown-dissolution-study
The committee is about halfway through their task, according to Morristown officials. There will be a second public meeting in November. Officials anticipate the study will conclude in January.
Study committee members include Mayor Cheryl Shatraw, John Barse, Phil Barse, Mark Blanchard, Chris Coffin, Diane LaRock, Jay Moore, John Newtown, Michele Whalen and Don Woods.
