MACOMB – Firefighters from the Morristown Fire Department have been credited with making a quick save of a residence after a bed caught on fire at 172 Turner Road Tuesday morning.

A possible structure fire was reported at 10:49 a.m. and firefighters responded to the scene with two engines, two tankers and an ambulance at 11:02 a.m.

Morristown Engine 34 sent its interior crew inside with a 1 ¾ inch attack line where they were met with smoke on the first floor and heavy smoke and moderate heat on the second floor.

The crew made entry into an upstairs bedroom where they found the bed on fire. They quickly extinguished the fire and vented the room and removed smoke from the building.

There was minor fire damage to the upstairs bedroom and minor water and smoke damage to the building.

“Our fire fighters did a great job today quickly knocking the fire down limiting the damage,” Morristown Fire Chief Kevin Crosby said.

The St. Lawrence County Cause & Origin Team is investigating the cause of the fire.

Morristown was assisted on scene by the Brier Hill, Heuvelton and Gouverneur Fire Departments. State police and the Morristown Auxiliary were also on scene.

“There were no injuries and fire damage is estimated at $3,000 to $4,000,” Crosby said.
