MORRISTOWN -- Volunteer firefighters will be making up more sandbags tonight to try to stem flooding of homes along the St. Lawrence River.
Firefighters from the Morristown and Brier Hill fire departments and junior firefighters from Morristown, along with community volunteers, made up about 1,000 sandbags Sunday night, according to Morristown Fire Chief Kevin Crosby. The volunteers Sunday night numbered between 35 and 40, Crosby said.[img_assist|nid=198101|title=This homeowner on Dubby Lane in Oswegatchie got help with sandbags.|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=250|height=166]
"We delivered bags to five residences last night," Crosby said, and they will be preparing more bags for distribution tonight.
He said they plan on filling and distributing about 1,000 more bags.
Flooding along the river shows no signs of abating soon.
The high water has been encroaching on property along the river form about a week.
