More rain, ice, delays, cancellations in St. Lawrence Valley and northern Adirondacks

As the precipitation continues to fall, many schools have delayed or cancelled classes today, and Colton has canceled the sleigh rides planned for this weekend's Winterfest. Where the rain hasn't turned to ice, the water on top of ice that was already on roads and sidewalks is very slippery.

Rain could turn to snow this afternoon and evening. High temperatures today will top out at about 35 degrees before it drops to about 25 tonight.

The National Weather Service expects the precipitation to taper off, but the chance of more continues at 40 percent tomorrow, with highs again in the mid to upper 30s. Winds will begin picking up tonight, rising further tomorrow to 7 to 17 mph with gusts up to about 28 mph.

The chance of snow showers continues tomorrow night through Sunday night, and winds will remain gusty through Sunday. Sunday night, the temperature will drop seriously below freezing, to the mid-single digits.

Monday, the National Weather Service predicts that skies will be clear with a high near 21 before clouds and the chance of snow showers returns through the middle of the week.
