POTSDAM – More than 600 people from over 50 years of graduating classes are expected at the first-ever Potsdam Central School Mega Reunion this summer, according to organizers.

The schedule for the mass reunion of students from 1960 to 2010, spearheaded by Class of ’70 grad Phillip Demarest is firming up.

Demarest said he is still looking for contacts for classes from 1960 (and before) to 2010 to help organize and notify other classmates about the Aug. 10 through 12 event.

Events and activities will be posted on the group’s Facebook page as they are confirmed.

So far, they include deals for shopping and supporting the local merchants of Potsdam, music in Ives Park and outdoor activities.

There will also be social hours for a combination of class mini-reunions, a Mega blow-out party with Double Axel and a few surprises that are being kept secret.

According to Demarest, first estimates were 250 alumni might attend.

After initial publicity and the creation of a Facebook page, he said there were over 2,000 hits in the first week.

“Now we are anticipating over 600 alumni,” Demarest said. “This reunion will go down in the history of Potsdam. Never has an undertaking of this magnitude been tried.”
