OGDENSBURG -- Sixty-two Ogdensburg Free Academy yearbooks are now available on the New York Heritage website.

Issues of the Devilog, including 7,397 images, have been digitized and posted, but 1951 and 1978 are missing.

The effort was a collaboration between St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System and the Northern New York Library Network, based in Potsdam.

“The digitization of school yearbooks has opened up a wealth of local history information to the public. The feedback that we've received has been wonderful,” SLL SLS director Kelly Wilson said in a news release. “The yearbooks have been used for genealogy work, local history projects, and strolls down memory lane.”

“As a school librarian I have received multiple calls from people who are looking for ‘lost’ friends or family members, including those who are working on their family's genealogy,” OFA librarian Melissa Starks said. “With so many people who have left the area this is a way to connect with their history and hometown.”

To view the digital yearbooks, go to www.nyheritage.org, click on "Collections," and select St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System. Districts are listed in alphabetic order.

The Devilog yearbooks join St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System member district yearbooks on the New York Heritage site from Canton, Colton-Pierrepont, Edwards-Knox, Madrid-Waddington, Massena, Morristown, Norwood-Norfolk, Potsdam and St. Lawrence. The Gouverneur Central School “Deanonian” yearbooks are currently being worked on, and issues will begin to be loaded on the New York Heritage site in the coming days.
